Puppy Preschool

Class Description

Congratulations! You have a new puppy, how exciting!

Puppy classes are an indispensable foundation to the rest of your puppy’s life; let’s start them off on the right paw!

In our puppy class we start building the foundations for “come” “leave it” and “stay” right away, which once your puppy is grown can be potentially life saving cues. Yet, at the same time your puppy thinks its the greatest thing in the world, interacting with other puppies, people and objects which will help to prevent potential fearful reactions to new noises (thunderstorms), strangers, children and different dogs.

We create a fun and exciting environment so that your puppy can interact without fear to new situations.

We recommend starting Puppy Classes between 10-12 weeks. This is the ideal socialization period for puppies. In general, puppies can start puppy classes as early as 7-8 weeks of age. Puppies should receive a minimum of one set of vaccines at least 7 days prior to the first class and a first deworming. They should be kept up-to-date on vaccines throughout the class. We follow the recommendations of the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior.

Puppy Kindergarten (Teenagers 5 months – 1 year)

Class Description

Is your adolescent dog driving you nuts?

Does your puppy still pull on their leash when they see another dog or person on walks? Or would you like your dog to come when you call them when there’s a squirrel around? Or what about being able to sit on the patio at The Wismer House and you dog stay with you?

These are not impossible tasks!

We focus on the 3 “Ds” of training: Distraction, Duration and Distance. Each of these will take place in the tasks we teach your dog, to help them grow into a perfect adult!

We’ve now added Go to Mat Training into our curriculum which will teach your dog to go lay on their mat during meal times or when someone comes to the door!

Life Skills 1 (For Adults 1 year +)

This class runs every 3-4 months.  Please contact us if no registration is available below.

Class Description

Think you can’t teach old dogs new tricks? Think again.

Our Life Skills 1 class is for any dog that needs a refresher class, or has never taken a class before. We want to rekindle that fun and exciting time back when they were puppies.

Imagine your dog got out the front door and was running towards the road – wouldn’t it be nice if you had a solid recall that would get them to turn on a dime? Most dogs hear “come” and they think, “What’s in it for me? Good or bad?” We will teach them again that “come” is great and they should pick you over the squirrel, cat or car.

We also will focus on loose leash walking techniques and tools so that you walk them, not the other way around. And wouldn’t it be great if you dropped a bunch of chocolate on the floor and your dog knew the “leave – it” cue meant don’t touch it? It can save your dog’s life when potentially poisonous items may be in their reach. And there’s much more.

We’ve now added “Go to Mat” training into our curriculum. This will teach your dog to go lay on their mat during meal times to prevent begging, or when someone comes to the door so they are not charging at your guests!

  • Lots of focus on “Come”

Rally Obedience (For Adults 1 year +)

This is a fun sport class for you and your dog!
This class runs every 3-4 months.  Please contact us if no registration is available below.

Class Description

Are you looking for some entertainment that you and your dog can do together?

CKC Rally is a companion sport to CKC Obedience. Both events require teamwork between dog and handler, along with similar performance skills. Rally provides an excellent introduction to all CKC companion performance events for dogs and handlers. The chief objective of rally is to provide a fast-moving and motivational activity that demonstrates the competency of handler and dog in performing basic obedience exercises without requiring exact precision for success. Rally can also provide the opportunity to refine training skills for competitors in other events.

Dogs in rally obedience events should demonstrate willingness and enjoyment. To that end, handlers may use praise, encouragement, and petting throughout a rally course.
